2-day itinerary for Copenhagen Layovers

Copenhagen, the capital of Demark, is the main transfer hub for SAS airline. If you have a long layover on your way to somewhere in Europe, you can quickly hop on the Metro and tour the city center. The metro lines could take you to many points of interest, however, I just walked. You will be amazed by how much you can explore this charming city in just a few hours. I did it in September 2024, and hopefully you will too (with more time to spare.) The POI map is credited to the site Nomad Epicureans. Day1:

  • Buy a 1-day multi-use Metro ticket at the airport. Take M2 (yellow line on map below) to the city center and get off at Kongens Nytorv (#13 on map). It's a 15-20 ride. I didn't see any ticket scanning machines, but there are inspectors on the train to check your tickets.

  • Walk counter-clockwise from #13 to #1.

  • The closest Metro station to #1 Torvehallerne is Nørreport St. (Metro M2), about 76 meters away, 2 min walk. Take M2 back to the airport, or to your hotel.

Day 2:

  • If coming from the airport, buy a 1-day Metro ticket again and take M2 to the city center Kongens Nytorv station (#13 on map).

  • From #13, walk clock wise to #27 the Round Tower.

  • If you need to go back to the airport, walk 850 meters (~11 minutes) to Kongens Nytorv to take M2 metro. It will take 15-20 minutes.

This 2-day tour map & Google map guided me during my long layovers in Copenhagen, on my way to/from Athens. I had to pass some of the POIs & took a few Metro rides due to my time constraint. For sure I will visit Copenhagen again in the future, and to expand my exploration beyond the capitol city.

Each loop may take 2 to 5 hours to walk, depending on your walking speed and interests. Just make sure to use your time wisely and don't miss your flight!
